Being a parent has helped me learn a lot. Obviously, I?ve learned parenting skills, but I?ve also learned more about myself as a person, and I have also learned about my faith and my relationship with God. Even if you don?t have a personal relationship with God, I encourage you to read this post and thoughtfully consider what I?m about to write.

There are so many aspects of parenting that have given me the, ?A-ha? moment when I think about how I relate to God. If we consider God as the ?ultimate parent?, a lot of the same values, traits, and desires we have for our own children are simliar.

In the delivery room, {both times} I cried tears of joy when my little girls were born. I was?ecstatic, and couldn?t believe they were my children, from my own womb. As they have grown older, just like any normal child, they tested their limits in good and bad ways, and often decided that their way is best. They can be stubborn, resistant, throw temper tantrums, yet when it comes down to it, they know that mommy and daddy want the best for them, and that we will always be here for them.

Just as I want my children to trust in me to protect them and that I have their best interest at heart, God wants that even more. Just as I want my children to talk to me when their happy, confide in me when they are upset, and rely on me when they are sad, God want that even more. Just as I am proud when my children accomplish their goals or overcome their fears, God is even more proud. Just as I make rules, not to hinder or sadden my children, but because I see future consequences and potential outcomes they may not, so does God. I am not comparing myself or you to God, because we can never be like Him, however in pointing out some similarities I hope that each of us may understand what God wants from us; to appreciate, respect, love, understand, obey, and know that just like we talk to our kids on their level, that He is willing to meet us right where we are in life. Our kids don?t have to grow up overnight to understand what we want from them and to gain our love, they just need to be who they are. God, our Heavenly Father is waiting to meet you, right where you are, He wants you to allow Him to be the parent that He is in your life, and your children?s lives as well.

Genesis 1:27: So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
